Hunting season has a way of getting here faster than expected. Before opening day arrives, taking a little time to prepare can make a big difference once you're in the woods.

Start by checking your equipment. Whether you're heading out with a bow or firearm, make sure everything is functioning properly and you're comfortable using it. For bowhunters, this is a great time to check your strings, cables, arrows, broadheads, rest, sight, and overall bow setup.

Don't forget the smaller things, either. Batteries, rangefinders, flashlights, insect repellent, scent-control products, safety equipment, and comfortable clothing can be just as important once you're in the field.

Most importantly, give yourself time to practice. Confidence comes from knowing your equipment and being prepared before the opportunity you've been waiting for finally arrives.
